When will I be ready for my practical driving test?
My answer to this question is that when you can drive consistently well without making mistakes. I do use mock test to assess this requirement.
The practical driving test is to find out whether you can drive safely on the roads without supervision.
You must be able to demonstrate to the examiner that you have this ability or you will not pass the test.
The test will last approximately 44 minutes from start to finish.
You will have read out a car number plate from 20 metres.
Then the examiner will ask you two questions in relation to the show me, tell me part of the driving test. I will give you all the questions you may be asked.
From the 4 October 2010 your practical driving test will include a 10 minute section of independent driving. Independent driving is not a test of your orientation and navigation skills, Driving independently means making your own decisions - this includes deciding when it's safe.
If you ask for a reminder of the directions, the examiner will confirm them to you.
If you go off the independent driving route it won't affect the result of your test unless you commit a driving fault. The examiner will help you to get back on the route and continue with the independent driving
If you commit a serious or dangerous fault during your driving test you will fail. You will also fail if you commit more than 15 minor driving faults. The examiner can stop your driving test if they feel that you are driving dangerously.
The test routes are in and around Westhill, Culloden, Smithton, Longman, Crown, Haugh, Lochardil, Hilton. You will drive all over Inverness.
On the day of your test you will have 2 hours, one hour before your test and one hour for your test and to get you back home. If you live outside of Inverness it is for 2 and a half hours. |
