When will I be ready for my practical driving test?

My answer to this question is that when you can drive consistently well without making mistakes. I do use mock test to assess this requirement.

To learn to drive in the UK you must be...

At least 17 years of age and hold a provisional driving licence. You can apply for your driving licence up to 3 months before you turn 17.(16 if you claim disability allowance at the higher rate). Forms are available at any post office or online.

Why is a 2 hour lesson recommended?

Many people will see that we recommend two hours and assume that we are simply trying to double the amount of money I can charge per lesson. This is not so, the fact is that two hour lessons are more efficient and provide better value.

Consider that a 1 hour lesson will be broken up in the following way.

Move to training area - 5mins
Review of previous lesson and briefing - 10mins
Recap of subject covered - 5mins
Return to drop off point - 5mins
Administration - 5mins

This leaves 30mins real time for learning and practise.

Now contrast this to the same time on these support activities' in a two-hour lesson, which leaves 90 minutes real time for learning and training. 3 times the amount of real learning time at only twice the cost.

Although I recommend two hour lessons for the best learning value for money, I do understand that not everyone can afford two hours even if it is the time that is the problem for them rather than money.

Your first lesson will always be for 2 hours.

While learning to drive you need to pass a combined theory and hazard perception test. You need to do this before you can book your practical test. The pass mark for the multiple choice part of the theory test is 43 out of 50. The pass mark for the hazard perception section of the theory test is 44 out of 75.
